FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Refunds: Normally we do not allow refunds at all due to purchasing supplies and paying for camp necessities, credit card fees and because we begin purchasing as early as March. However, due to very unusual circumstances with COVID-19, we will be extending a refund of 95% of the fee paid until 6/15. We still had minor operating expenses to cover. You will receive a 5% discount on next year's camp registration (Conejo Leadership Camp, Conejo Girl's Camp, Conejo Boy's Camp). Coupon code will be (code 5-2020). You can also use the 5% discount for the Leadership Retreat 2021.
If you opt to stay registered in Virtual Aloha Camp Conejo, you will receive a 50% refund from the early-bird rate. You must fill out the form (link will be posted on this site on May 13th). All Virtual Aloha Camp registrants will receive a 10% discount on next year's camp. (code 10-2020)
WHAT IS NORMALLY INCLUDED FOR THE CAMPER FEE OF $230?
Campers receive a fantastic program that includes all supplies, a camp T-shirt, 6 patches, snacks, and now includes the treat pack (Kona Ice, Jamba, Ice Cream, Lunch on Wednesday) and a water bottle!
CAN MY DAUGHTER BE WITH HER FRIEND?
Yes, your daughter can request up to three friends to be in her tribe. Campers are placed in tribes of 7-10 campers of the same age group. Campers can request up to 2-3 friends to be placed with them. We make every effort to create balanced tribes with girls having both old friends and the opportunity to make new ones. We honor the request if friends request each other - the friend MUST request your daughter too.
WHAT IS THE JR. COUNSELOR PROGRAM?
This is an optional program for youth entering 6th grade. To participate register your youth as a "Jr. Counselor". Jr. Counselors may choose one friend to be paired with. Jr. Counselors will be partnered up with Counselors and learn the skills needed to become Counselors themselves. This program is a wonderful opportunity for 6th graders to learn leadership skills. They will be attending workshops in a leadership capacity, but often will have time to participate in the workshop activity as well. Their participation qualifies as service hours. A Jr. Counselor training session will be held prior to camp. Incoming 6th graders who prefer to participate as Campers, rather than Jr. Counselors, will be placed in a tribe with their age group as a camper. Camper 6th graders will still register under the Jr. Counselor registration option, however in the special instructions section, please indicate that your youth prefers to be placed as a camper.
WHY DON'T THE OLDER COUNSELORS WHO ARE VOLUNTEERING GO FOR FREE?
These girls are working on leadership badges during camp. They are minors and we are still required to have adults at camp to supervise. They also participate in activities each day. We purchase supplies (art, tie-dye, camp shirts, snacks, and one lunch) for the girls and must cover those expenses. Counselors also receive their own camp shirt, lanyard, camp patch, and two leadership patches. Counselors do have the option to participate in most of the workshops, once the campers have completed theirs. Counselors are also required to attend a pre-camp orientation which includes pizza. Counselors are a vital part of the program!
AS A VOLUNTEER, WILL I BE WITH MY DAUGHTERS GROUP AT CAMP?
Yes, you will definitely see your daughter at day camp, however, you may not be placed with her for the entire volunteer time.
IS THERE A VOLUNTEER DISCOUNT?
Yes, and we really like giving it as we cannot run the camp without volunteers! A parent who volunteers for the full session (5 days) receives $130 off of registration for their daughter. You must agree to volunteer Monday-Friday 8:30-3:30 (the full session). If you are registering more than one daughter, the first daughter is discounted and the second is the full fee. Part time volunteers receive discounts as well for their camper or Counselor/Jr. Counselor. If you are registering a son, he will get the boys unit for $65. The sibling girls pay full fee because the program is primarily geared for girls, while the boys unit is slightly less formal. The fee will be reduced when you register. Please note that there is a mandatory information/training session prior to the start of camp for all volunteers, including partial volunteers. All volunteers have a guaranteed spot for their child and one buddy.
DOES MY CAMPER/COUNSELOR/JR. COUNSELOR NEED TO WEAR THEIR SHIRT EVERYDAY?
Yes, we have camp shirts for several reasons, the most important is safety. Also, with camp shirts, all the girls are on the same team. There are no wardrobe comparisons, no treasured shirts to get paint on, etc... We know wearing the same shirt each day might get a little stinky if you don't have time to wash it each night so we do offer you a chance to purchase additional T's at a minimal cost.
CAN I DROP MY CAMPER OFF EARLY?
No, but drop off begins at 8:40. We do not have adequate supervision for girls prior to camps designated starting time. Our volunteers and Counselors are getting ready for the days activities. Please do NOT bring your girls to camp expecting to sign them in early. If you cannot be there to be responsible for them, be sure you have arrangements with another adult. You must authorize that adult to sign your daughter in/out on your registration forms.
IS THERE ANY FOOD/SNACK PROVIDED? WILL MY CHILD BE ABLE TO REFILL HIS/HER OWN WATER BOTTLE?
Each day at camp we provide a healthy snack for the girls. We serve the snack mid-morning. Each girl brings her own lunch. Be sure your daughters lunch is packed in an insulated bag with an appropriate ice pack to keep her food cold. Everyday we also purchase lots of ice. Water coolers are refilled often and kept cold. Girls should have refillable water bottles labeled clearly with their name. Be sure to let us know of any severe food allergies on our paperwork.
CAN MY CHILD ALTER THEIR CAMP SHIRT?
They cannot cut the logo. They can fringe and decorate their shirt with beads. They cannot cut sleeves or make it so short that they have to wear another shirt underneath it. They cannot write on the shirt until friday.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
You can cancel your registration by 3/15 and receive a full refund. After March 15th there are no refunds. You can sell your spot to another camper. Please inform us of the person you sell it to and and include their email, parent name, and camper or counselor you are transferring it to.
WHAT IS A PAPOOSE TRIBE?
The Papoose Tribe is offered for 3 and 4 year old boys and girls of camp volunteers (kids not yet in pre-k or k).
WHO IS THE CAMP DIRECTOR?
Denise Sheaks Burke MA, LCSW is the camp founder and director. She attended Columbia University in New York City and earned her MSW degree in Social Work. She also earned an MA degree in Counseling from New Jersey City University. Denise is an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) in CA and CT. Denise has been working with teens for over 20 years. She has a passion for inspiring leadership in youth and strives to help all kids at Conejo Leadership Camp feel like they are a part of a camp family. Contact Denise anytime with questions about CLC.
HOW IS COVID-19 AFFECTING CAMP THIS YEAR?
If camp is canceled due to COVID-19, we will make the decision and announcement on June 1st. Any request for a refund prior to June 1st will be at an 80% refund. We WILL be offering a FULL online virtual camp using Google Classroom and Zoom. Parents can pick up their child's camp bucket filled with camp supplies for program and a t-shirt at a drive up location in June. Program boxes will be delivered if a parent cannot get to one of the drive-up locations. Registrants will earn and receive 20 fun patches by participating in the official Virtual Conejo Leadership Camp and Counselors/Jr. Counselors will have a chance to earn volunteer and leadership hours. Virtual Camp will be offered at a 50% reduction from the full fee. Aftercare, extra shirts, Papoose tribe, and boys unit will be refunded at 100%. Boys can remain registered if requested. Volunteers can still get a discounted rate if they assist with making online content and with program behind the scenes. Otherwise, they will receive the early-bird rate for Virtual Camp. Graduating High School Seniors (Class of 2020) get camp for free as a thank you and will assist with leading and creating video content.
